Facebook – Happiness – Sadness

I don’t remember when I actually signed up for a Facebook account.  I do know I was there before the spring of 2009.

What’s been so awesome is catching up with friends from my childhood and early adult life, keeping up with my far away family and keeping up with the friends from more recent years.  And there is always the joy of making new friends.

What is so sad about being on Facebook is I’m seeing deaths that I probably wouldn’t have even known about if I had not been on Facebook.  I was counting how many people I’ve cared about and the number of deaths were pretty hefty (imo).  What brought about the count was the fact that the husband of an old school friend passed on Christmas Day and 2 days later another guy from school passed.  As far as I can recall, including these two, there have been close to a dozen.  This includes those I learned of on Facebook and those who had no facebook connections.

That’s just too many for me to comprehend.  The worst part is it how it hurts.  Some of these people I had just reconnected with and brought awesome memories.  Then, just as suddenly as they came back in my life, they were gone… without the opportunity to connect again, in person.

I had sent my sister a very long text on this subject and by the time I had typed it in, tears made it hard to see my keyboard (I’m not the best texter in the world).  I just hope that the opportunities were not missed on my part.

If you have friends on Facebook, don’t wait until it’s too late to truly catch up with them.
